Living Room as purchased

Picture
As you can see, the previous owner left a lot of stuff behind, all of it worthless. You cannot imagine the smell at this point. There were nine cats and two dogs kept in the home. We found cat feces everywhere. The smell of urine permeated everything!

If you look closely, you can see that there were several layers of contact paper covering the walls. Also visible is wood-grain wainscoting. It was not installed properly so all of the electrical outlets in the living room were recessed into crudely cut holes.

The rooms in the background are the add-on. Notice the blankets covering a set of French doors. The add-on was not built on footers, but rather, simply set on concrete blocks placed directly on the ground. Over the years, the blocks have settled and the room is slowly sinking. The French doors are so out of square that they will not operate and there is a huge gap at the top and side. Self-stick floor tile was applied directly over OSB and has obviously failed. Incase anyone was wondering, OSB is NOT a suitable base for self-stick floor tile.

Solutions:

We removed all of the junk left behind and hauled it all to the dump. Cost, about $80.
